Hi everyone, it had been ages since we've updated our blog so here I am. =)

Due to different commitments, Liting and Qiqi were unable to attend the metting. Therefore, xinying and I went to meet Mr Ong and Michael at Starbucks @ Tampines Mall. Many important issues, especially the financial matters, were brought up and we had spent a considerable time trying to resolving some problems that arised. Although we have not met up with our mentor and VWO's representative for the past few weeks, we have been making progress. There are 2 different bookmarks almost done, requiring some minor editing, and we have been liasing with a potential printing company to get the best price for the cost of production of bookmarks.

Then, we went through the timeline and realised that we were behind our datelines. However, this is unavoidable i think. Planning and turning an idea into a reality are different. Hence, such cases are common. Not to worry, our group is not procrastinating nor have disrupted our team's progress by a large extent. heez. Nevertheless, we understood that we are not supposed to waste any more time. We began to source for sponsors and we tapped on the networks of Michael and Mr Ong. (THANKS ALOT!)

At the end of the meeting, all of us are allocated our duties. Team Hestia was supposed come up with a list of potential sponsors and letters for sponsorship to be edited / vetted by everyone. Michael and Mr Ong each were to aid us in our search for potential sponsors. We also arranged for another meeting on 290606 where payment will be made to the test tube suppliers.

Till the next meeting, all of us were busy preparing for our mid year exams. Hence, Team Hestia had a short break. hahaz. =)

team HESTIA went for the YFC talk in he morning. IT was a meaningful talk, enlightening how to work better as a team given our different character traits, and how to get more volunteers; understanding the needs and welfare of voluneers.

Btw, the character traits of our team members are

Went for a small meeting in the afternoon, involving the miss PUBLICITY, miss LOGISTICS, and most importantly, miss FINANCE!!!

We discuss a whole series of timeline and set our goals for each week. Our roles are set and our tasks are equally distrubed as follows:

after the meeting, we went to source for various materials required. We had also settled with the idea of selling only bubble solution test tubes and personalised test tubes, and going away with the idea of sweets in test tubes.

HESTIA met up again to go down to a student care centre to spread the message of poverty to the children there. We seeked their opinions on poverty through artworks hand drawn by them. ALL the works were magnificient and we believed that through this, they not just know more about poverty, but also have fun in the process. WE chose a fine bookmark drawn by THOMAS!!!We had a short interaction time with the kids and we played HAng-man with them. We introduce interesting facts like the country Seychelles, the lagest seed: Coco De Mer and lots more..From the faces of these kids, we knew that they have truely enjoyed our company. It was rewarding indeed

People, please bear with my poor english as i have not got used to not writing in sms-lingo.

The week for us flew real fast to friday, 26May, which we have planned to meet up with Mr Ong and Michael and Matthew. Our school, Meridian Junior College, has NO SCHOOL today ( i mean that day, u'll understand. ritez? ) HIP HIP HURRAY!! So, we decided to push forward the meeting time from 1pm to 11.30am.

However, as we need to prepare samples of the products we are planning to sell, me, xinying and liting met at 10.30am at tampines mall. Qiqi had to be in school in the morning due to her leadership obligations (lw:WAHAHAHA) so she was unable to meet us earlier. We then went to NTUC to buy chocolates. hmm. with OUR OWN MONEY. hahaz. because we ate the chocolates ourselves in the end. heez. with the chocolates, we filled a test tube with them and stoppered it with some cotton wool and tied a red ribbon. Besides this, xinying had also prepared a test tube filled with saga seeds and stoppered and decorated in the same way as the other test tube. I have also brought 2 types of test tubes to give Mr Ong and Michael a better idea of how our products look like. One is filled with a bubble solution and is stoppered with a cork with a wire attached to it used for blowing bubbles. The other contains dyed water with sequins and glitter. There is also a thin sheet of transparency with a personalised message in it. n YESH, THESE 2 TEST TUBES LOOK ~~SEXY~~ PRETTY AND CLASSY WITHOUT LOSING A YOUTHFUL FEEL. (these are the 2types of testtubes we are selling. please look at our posts for furthr information.)

Since we were early, the 3 of us went to find a seat in the foodcourt of tampines mall and sat down to discuss our proposal and how were we going to present our ideals to Matthew and Michael and Mr Ong. Soon, all of us were here and we started to present Matthew the designs we got people to come up with. Although there were some information to be edited, overall he was rather satisfied with our work. Thus he promised to buy 1000 bookmarks from us to be distributed back in his country at a agreed price. We promised to give the contract and design (edited) of bookmark to Matthew by next saturday which is 3rd June.

With a agreement made for the product and the quantities wanted, and when it will be ready, Hestia and our mentor and VWO moved on to discuss our proposal. Cost prices of our products (bookmarks and test tubes) were checked and used to estimate retail prices. Strategies to attract volunteers needed were thought up. We were planning to make collection of spectacles a game that is similar to 'the Amazing Race' with attractive prizes to be won. This way, we will be able to entice more volunteers to participate with families or friends as a team. The bookmarks' designs were confirmed as 4 main themes. One about SUPERSEED, the organisation while another is on the IN FOCUS program. 2 other types of bookmarks were about Coco de Mer or related to poverty done by primary school children. Mr Kwek had also rejected Hestia's poposal to award CIP hours by the results of the sale of bookmarks. Thus we had to come up with another way to promote the sales of bookmarks.

Besides, there are no major problems in the timeline and financial plan of team Hestia when we went through them together. So, we were given the green light to proceed with our projects...................................................... hehehehehehhehehehehhehehehehehh..

okok i know this is really late but well, it's better late than never. heez. I'm miss logistics here and here's what team HESTIA was up to for the last 2 weeks.

The very first meeting

Me, QiQi (leader +D) , Xinying (Miss finances) and Liting (miss publicity) went for the CYFC disbursement ceremony on 20 May 2006. We met our mentor, Mr. Ong, and Michael, our VWO's representative, for the first time! *play some background music* Did Liting or me mentioned anything about our VWO? anyway, it is called SUPERSEED which is less than one-year-old!

SUPERSEED mainly collects used equipments and appliances and refurnish them. Then they distribute to others who need these second-hand goods. Hestia is joining one of the SUPERSEED initiatives called IN FOCUS. This is a program to collect used spectacles that may require minor repairs, and getting them back into good condition. After doing so, these are given to those in Singapore and other parts of the world who have visionary problems but are unable to afford a pair of spectacles; thus bringing their lives 'in focus'. Some of u people may wonder how exactly the used spectacles without prescriptions can help others. Actually, SUPERSEED has contacted some optical companies who have volunteered to do minor repairs for the spectacles donated while some offered to read prescriptions for the spectacles. Thus if u have a few pairs of unused spectacles at home which u want to donate but have forgotten the readings, PLEASE DO DONATE TO US! Boxes will be placed near ur housing estates, probably at the CCs or RCs nearby or even under ur void deck. please look out for them.

back to the meeting. hahaz. Michael introduced 2 guests to us, Matthew and Alan. We learnt that they are from CEFRAD, which is a VWO in Seychelles Islands (if u don't know where is this country, look up ur world map. it is located in the Indian Ocean above Madagascar.) All of us had refreshments *yums* and chatted for a short while before we got to go back to the ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, all 8 of us (including the 2 distinguished guests) sat down at a cafe in Sinagpore Polytechnic to discuss our proposal. Mr. Ong and Michael offered us different ideas and views that we did not think of previously. They also gave us a better idea of how to put our ideas into reality. Our discussion was mainly about our products. Some of u people may already know that team Hestia is selling bookmarks and test tubes to raise funds for SUPERSEED. However, many issues such as cost prices of products, quantities to buy and targetted sales were nto confirmed. So we spent a fair amount of time reconsidering our products and their production and sale which eventually lead us to think of our team's objectives and targets for our project. As a result of the discussions with another group of people and newly arised questions, all of us had different work to do before the next week. Mr Ong offered to help us look for a printing company for bookmarks while Michael promised us a list of contacts SUPERSEED are assoiates with so that we can ask them for donations or sponsorships. ~~*evil gleam in my eyes*~~ heh heh. However, me, qi, xy and lt knew clearly that- Hey, we should not rely too much on sponsorship since we are not sure if we can get them!

Halfway through our discussions, Matthew offered us our FIRST deal. As u know, he is from a VWO in Seychelles Islands. So he had an idea of incoporating the real SUPERSEED aka the largest seed in the world which is found in Seychelles Islands, the Coco de Mer, into our bookmarks. he then said that he could purchase bookmarks with Coco de mer pictures/ informations from Hestia. Elated and excited, all of us reeled in to what he had got to say. Matthew aaked us to design samples for him so that he can choose and confirm what design and how many bookmarks he wants to purchase from us by the next meeting. Hestia agreed and we shook hands. An informal deal is 'under-construction'!

At the end of meeting, we decided to meet up next week, 1pm on 26May at tampines mall. Mr Ong, Michael and Mr Kwek will be there to learn about the latest progress made by Hestia. Matthew wll also be there to confirm the details of our deal as he needs to choose a design and the quantities he wants. With that, all of us left with a clear ides of his or her responsibility for the following week............
